Privacy at a glance

RandThings tools run in the browser, so tool inputs are not sent to the server. The main site may still use analytics, advertising tags, and normal server logs to operate, measure traffic, and fund the site.

1. Overview

RandThings ("we", "us", "our") operates randthings.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site and how it is used. We take your privacy seriously and collect the minimum data needed to operate and improve the service.

2. Information We Collect

Tool data: All tools (dice roller, wheel, password generator, etc.) run entirely in your browser. No inputs, results, or generated values are transmitted to our servers.

Analytics data: We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage statistics such as page views, session duration, and device type. This data helps us understand how the tools are used and improve them. Google Analytics may be enabled depending on deployment configuration, collects data through cookies, and may process it in the United States. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.

Server logs: Our web server automatically logs IP addresses, browser type, and pages requested. These logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes only.

3. Cookies

RandThings uses the following cookies:

  • Theme preference: A single entry in localStorage stores your dark/light mode preference. This stays on your device and is never transmitted.
  • Google Analytics cookies: GA4 sets cookies (e.g. _ga, _ga_*) to distinguish users and sessions for analytics purposes when analytics is enabled.
  • Google AdSense cookies: If ads are displayed on the site, Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to serve personalised advertisements based on your interests and prior visits to other websites.

4. Advertising

RandThings may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Advertising is one of the ways RandThings can remain free to use. If ads are enabled, they should be clearly labeled and placed so they do not interfere with the main tool experience.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or by visiting aboutads.info. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Data may be shared with:

  • Google (Analytics and AdSense), as described above
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers, for site operation only
  • Law enforcement, if required by applicable law

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), or other privacy laws, including the right to access, correct, or delete data held about you. Because we do not collect personal data beyond server logs and analytics, most requests are satisfied by opting out of Google Analytics via the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

For any privacy-related requests, contact us at hello@randthings.com.

7. Children's Privacy

RandThings is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Contact

Questions about this privacy policy can be sent to hello@randthings.com or via the contact page.
